The developer behind BioShock 2 and the recently recently The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, 2K Marin, has been hit by a large number of employee layoffs. Although no exact number of employees laid off has been released, Polygon reports that the “majority” of the team is gone.
And according to the same sources, the only developers who remain employed are those who plan to join the new 2K studio that was recently formed under Rod Fergusson, who was previously associated with Irrational Games and Epic Games.
Other sources have told Polygon that 2K Marin is indeed “100 percent closed”.
“We can confirm staff reductions at 2K Marin,” a 2K representative told Polygon. “While these were difficult decisions, we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged.”
