The Playstation 4 will cost a staggering R$3,999 in Brazil. That’s currently $1,800 in USD, and the Xbox One will also follow in at R$2,199 or $1,000 USD.
To the average North American the prices on the console seem anything but reasonable. Back in the fall of 2012, a website dedicated to advise people who wish to move to Brazil released some general statistics for how much it would cost for a “comfortable” life style. for a single person, you are looking at about $1,200 per month, which wouldn’t cost you a lot more then living in the USA or Canada, unless you attempt to budget properly. (Going out 2-3x a week costs you $400 a month? what are you buying, caviare?! its called McDonalds value menu, people.)
Although the Playstation 4 has been argued as one of the cheapest consoles by IGN’s Colin Moriarty, Brazil’s prices aren’t incredibly shocking. North America is big on luxury items, and unlike the rest of the world, we can’t define what we need and what we want.
