Today, Sony revealed the shockingly good lineup of games that will be free for next month’s PlayStation Plus subscribers in the United States. The list is one of Sony’s strongest yet and includes a few AAA titles alongside a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
Irrational Games has released the first five minutes of the highly anticipated DLC for Bioshock Infinite called Burial At Sea Episode 1. The DLC takes us back to Rapture along with Booker and Elizabeth. Take a look at the first five minutes below and discuss in the comments section. Do you like the direction that the DLC is going or does Burial At Sea look dull? One thing is for sure, I can’t wait to get my hands on this!
Irration Games, the ones behind the critically acclaimed BioShock game series, has announced that it’s laid off a small number of its staff this past week.
Kotaku says that the studio, who is working on two upcoming DLC packs for its latest game BioShock Infinite, says that the layoffs won’t affect the development of these add-ons “in any way”.
A statement on the situation from Irrational Games reads, ”In an effort to streamline our processes I am sad to confirm that we let go a total of eight employees today. Any studio’s greatest asset is the group of people that make up the whole, and as such it was extremely hard to make this decision and there is never a good time for this to happen. As co-workers and friends, we wish them the very best.”
Bioshock Infinite is one of the best games of the year. Actually, I would say that it’s my game of the year. After traveling through Columbia a few times, players may start to get bored. Has your copy of Bioshock Infinite been gathering dust? Have you been wanting a reason to spend some time with Booker and Elizabeth again? If so, you should definitely pick up the first DLC for Bioshock Infinite called Clash in the Clouds.
There are no story elements to be found in this DLC. Clash in the Clouds is a combat focused DLC that pits us against 15 waves of enemies across 4 maps for a total of 60 waves. It may not seem like a lot of depth, but there’s a lot to love about Clash in the Clouds. The maps are taken from environments that are featured in the story. In each of the waves, there is a blue ribbon challenge that will test even the greatest Bioshock Infinite players out there. Some challenges are extremely simple like “Defeat enemies only with the skyhook.” while other challenges include “defeating enemies with only headshots.”
While some of these challenges don’t seem too tough, some waves might have you fighting some very advanced enemies. Sirens, Firemen and the infamous Handyman are all here for the party. The gameplay is the same fast and furious gunplay that we all love, but with an added twist. After every wave, we’re sent to a room where we can change weapons and vigors as well as stock up on items. After every wave, there are also power boosts that we get. You can get infusions to upgrade Booker’s health, vigors and shield as well as obtain gear to use. These upgrades travel with you throughout all of your playthroughs on any map so there’s no need to worry.
This is great because the game would be too difficult if your upgrades were to reset after every game. Even though your upgrades carry over, don’t expect the game to be a walk in the park. Clash in the Clouds is a difficult, yet, very rewarding experience. Fans of the Bioshock universe will also be very happy because of the Columbian Archeological Society. The Columbian Archeological Society is a dream come true for fans of concept art and tons of behind the scenes footage. In order to unlock all of these items, you must spend money earned from the waves of enemies you face. It’s really cool to see the transformation of Elizabeth from conception to the final product. There are even videos of Courtnee Draper and Troy Baker to watch.
There’s so much replay value with this DLC. While a player may want to improve on their own score, there are leaderboards in each map that you can put your scores on. This makes for great competition.
Clash in the Clouds may not have been the DLC that people asked for, but the content is very rich for $5. Plus, this is a perfect way to re-introduce people to the world of Bioshock Infinite. If you liked the game’s combat as well as its fast-paced action, you should definitely pick up Clash in the Clouds. It’s a blast that can be experienced over and over again without ever getting boring. This is a great distraction while Irrational Games works on the story based DLC chapters called Burial At Sea.
Pros: Fun Gameplay, Huge Replay Factor, Cool Collectibles, Tough Challenges
Cons: Slightly Repetitive After Unlocking Everything.
Total Score: 8.0
Get ready to return to Rapture! Irrational Games has revealed information on the two story based DLC chapters for Bioshock Infinite. Burial at Sea Part 1 and 2 will involve Booker and Elizabeth in Rapture the day before its fall. We’ve always seen Rapture as a beautiful, yet devastated place, but it will be interesting to see it before the fall. In addition to this, Elizabeth is rocking an entirely new intriguing look and attitude.
In Burial at Sea Part 1, we play as Booker and in an interesting twist, Part 2 will involve the player controlling Elizabeth. Creator Ken Levine has described Elizabeth’s experience as more of a “survival horror” game. While this DLC is for Bioshock Infinite, Burial at Sea will play a little more like the other Bioshock games. How Elizabeth will change the gameplay is unknown, but it’s definitely an interesting concept.
There is also another DLC that was just released this morning. It’s called Clash in the Clouds. This is a combat challenge based DLC which includes four maps. There are also blue ribbon challenges that provide difficult objectives during each map’s 15 waves of enemies. Included in the DLC are also leaderboards, achievements/trophies and the Columbian Archeological Society. The Columbian Archeological society includes concept art, behind the scenes videos as well as new voxophones!
