Let’s get the biggest, inevitable elephant out of the room. Thief looks like Dishonored. There, it’s been said. However, whilst Eidos Montreal’s latest reboot shares numerous similarities with its competition, Thief is very much its own stealthy game.
The developer of Dishonored, Arkane Austin, has announced that they’re building their next game in CryEngine. This news comes just after a multitude of job listings were posted this week following a tweet from the company’s HR manager Ashley Pierce.
Arkane has previously used Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 3 to make their games in the past, which included Dishonored, and have also ditched id’s idTech 5 Engine which many thought was the one they’d be using for future projects. What the company’s next project will be remains a mystery since they’ve officially wrapped up development on Dishonored following the release of The Brigmore Witches add-on.
Bethesda has refused to comment on anything regarding Arkane’s adoption of CryEngine.
