Crazy Taxi made the jump to iOS awhile back, bringing back the 1999 classic – with the original songs.
For added awesomeness while reading this article, listen to this music.
Crazy Taxi was first released back in 1999, capturing the hearts of what I’m pretty sure are the psycho drivers you see on road now.
Since then several sequels and redone versions of the game have come out, over the past few years XBLA, Steam, and PSN versions of the classic game were released, bringing back memories up until the point that gamers realized it didn’t have the original music, disappointing the nostalgic hearts of thousands.
The iOS version, containing original music(thats right, original) and jam packed with all the features in the Dreamcast is one of the best iOS games ever made. With (almost) perfect controls, smooth graphics and only small changes from the original game (No more KFC.. boo) SEGA realized gamers really just wanted the original game on a newer system (or mobile device, in this case)
Along with the amazing game, however, comes the same old frustration: The Crazy Box. starting at simple challenges, “Crazy Jump” “Crazy Balloons” you slowly progress into “Crazy Attack Rule” where you must complete a lap of the arcade stage in under 4 minutes. (Don’t think its difficult? I cheered when I finished it. jumped to my feet and cheered.)
Due to the Dreamcast controllers…interesting… design, The iOS controls are a huge improvement, although you might have problems with boosting, which requires a double tap on the accelerating. Besides this, the controls are better then ever and the game can easily be enjoyed – I’ve even forgotten I’m playing on my phone before!
