Sony Online Entertainment announced that their free-to-play MMOFPS Planetside 2 has set a new Guinness World Records for “Most players online in a single FPS battle.”
Planetside 2 earned the record on January 24 when SOE partnered with PlanetSideBattles for a massive in-game battle between the three Planetside empires. When the three factions went at each other, 1,158 players simultaneously suited up for battle. The previous record holder, Man vs. Machine, saw 999 people simultaneously play their game back in 2012.
“We’re thrilled to have officially taken it back with PlanetSide 2,” Carey said. “It’s truly the players that define the game and we’d like to extend a BIG congratulations to our players for reaching such an accomplishment nearly every night, as well as thank them for making PlanetSide 2 exactly the type of experience it was meant to be.”
Planetside 2 is available on PC, while the PlayStation 4 version has recently entered a closed beta testing state.
