Microsoft has begun beta testing for a new Xbox One controller update that will improve connection speeds and stability.
The latest firmware is titled version 1.2.2236.0 and if you’re a member of the Xbox Preview Program, you’ll be able to download and install the update. If you’re unfamiliar with how to do so, you must connect the controller to the Xbox One via a USB cable, then login to Xbox Live, press menu, go to Settings > Devices & accessories, and navigate to the controller icon. The update will then be downloading to your controller.
The two key tweaks, according to Microsoft, are:
- Quick Connect: Previous controller connections to an Xbox One took 4-5 seconds when powering on a controller, now they should occur in around 2 seconds.
- Stability improvements: The firmware also provides a number of fixes that address issues submitted by customers and preview participants.
