In a blog post released on the Shadow Realms website, Jeff Hickman, General Manager at Bioware Austin broke the bad news to fans, revealing the team has decided to “not move forward with development.” Announced at EA’s Gamescom press conference back in August, Shadow Realms was set to be a story driven, competitive, 4v1 asymmetrical RPG, taking inspiration from pen and paper RPGs of old.
Though thanking fans for their excitement and feedback, Hickman made it clear there were other projects the developer would be turning its focus to instead, saying, “We’ve got an incredibly talented team here at the Austin studio, and they are excited and already deep on new projects within the Bioware family.”
As for what these projects were specifically, mention was made of further development on Dragon Age: Inquisition, the next Mass Effect, more new IP, and, most of all, further work on Bioware’s MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic. According to Hickman, “this is a massive year in the Star Wars universe,” plans are in the works, and he looks forward to “sharing the news about those plan with [the] players in the coming weeks.” Disappointed to hear Shadow Realms will never see the full light of day?
