The Last Guardian has gone through all sorts of problems – most of which we probably don’t know about – but there was always some hope left that the game would see the light of day. With the trademark abandoned, is that still possible? It is possible, but whether or not it’s likely is another thing. It’s worth noting that this has actually happened before and did not affect the supposed progress of the game’s development.
SONY abandoned the trademark back in 2012 as well, so perhaps there is still the slightest glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, but since The Last Guardian was announced in 2009 it has never really looked like being finished any time soon and the latest event in the IP’s timeline has done nothing to make amends. Yet, Fumito Ueda stated in December 2014 that the game was moving forward under “completely new conditions”, plus, Sony France are saying that the game is in fact still in development?
So what do you think? Is the trademark situation a simple misunderstanding or something more, given the game’s history? Will The Last Guardian ever see the light of day? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
