Nintendo announced the latest update for Super Smash Bros. on 3DS will be available on Tuesday. The update will add support for the use of amiibo figurines in the game. Nintendo confirmed the news in a PR email to Nintendolife:
A free update will also be released on 10th February for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that will enable amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection to be used with the new systems.
The update rolls out just days before the release of the New Nintendo 3DS XL, which hits stores on the 13th alongside the release of Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
The New 3DS XL comes with NFC compatibility built into the screen for interaction between amiibo figurines and amiibo-compatible games. The New 3DS also brings improvements for 3D viewing and a stronger CPU for speed and performance.
Details are still slim on the add-on peripheral Nintendo previously announced for current 3DS, 3DS XL, and 2DS to connect with amiibo figurines.
