Announced late last week, via a post on their website, ArenaNet confirmed ‘Heart of Thorns’, the first expansion for their MMO Guild Wars 2, will be getting a closed beta in the near future. Already playable in demo forms at PAX East and the up coming Rezzed, the closed beta will be the first time players will be able to sink their hands into the expansion in the comfort of their own homes.
While giving no specific date for when players may receive their invitations, ArenaNet spoke to the beta over all, stating: “There will be no nondisclosure agreements for these beta tests. Those of you who are selected as testers will be free to talk about your experiences and to post streams and videos of the content you play. Please understand that these are early beta tests designed to stress core systems of an expansion that’s still in development.”
Now, as for how to get into the closed beta, unfortunately there is not a direct sign up. Invitations for the multiple beta events, as they occur in the near future, will be sent to any players signed-up to receive the Guild Wars 2 newsletter. While signing up for the newsletter does not guarantee you a spot, it is so far the only way to get an invitation. You can sign up for it here.
Announced back in January, with the gorgeous reveal trailer you can find below, ‘Heart of Thorns’ is set to include new zones, new endgame progression, and most notably, a new character class: the revenant. ArenaNet are constantly detailing the new additions and tweaks coming to the game, speaking at length about the new class last month.
