On January 7th 2015th, Bill Farmer, the voice actor for Goofy, tweeted that apparently the game was supposed to come out in 2015. There was a lot of excitement for a bit, but some things just didn’t add up.
On October 7th 2014, Tetsuya Nomura (director of Kingdom Hearts III), announced that Square Enix was going to be using the Unreal Engine 4, for various reasons, one most importantly being the action that the game is supposed to undergo.
This being said, it’s safe to assume that we’d be waiting quite a while to get release date since the game was still under development. I might also add that since Goofy’s voice actor had supposedly finished recording, what did it say about the others?
In the tweet above, you can see that he’s implying that everyone else could be finished. To further speculate on this theory, we can analyze the death of a famous voice actor who was voicing for Xehanort.
Despite the passing of Leanord Nemoy (voice actor for Xehanort, famously known from Star Trek as Spock), Square never released information suggesting that they’d need to find a new voice actor for the primary antagonist.
As you can see here, the job listings remain the same, they’re looking for people who can code with C++, and really things that have nothing to do with Arts and entertainment field. All of their job listings are specifically for the technical side of their future games.
Does this suggest that the game despite the engine change might have been finished pre emptively?
For my sake of not waiting until 2017 like most people believe, I hope not. However we have to think about the people in Square Enix. If we get the game when we want, and things are still unfinished, no one will be satisfied. We’re talking about the last part of the Xehanort saga. Let’s go out with a bang!
