Previous Ubisoft creative director and creator of the Assassin’s Creed franchise Patrice Désilets revealed his newest game: Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.
The game is the first since Désilets was let go from Ubisoft and created his own independent studio, Panache Digital Games. A short trailer for the game was shown during the Reboot Developer 2015 Conference in Dubrovnik as seen above.
The game is described on the developer’s site as “a third person action-adventure survival episodic game.” Settings for the game were not specifically detailed, but the description reads as “Through each episode, we want the player to relive the greatest moments of mankind with a documentary twist. Our civilisation is one idea away from extinction… or evolution.”
Désilets previously worked on AC 1, 2, and AC: Brotherhood during his time with Ubisoft. Initially reluctant to talk about any bad blood that may remain between himself the company, Désilets said he is not regretful.
“I have nothing against Ubisoft the company,” he said. “I have nothing against the people at Ubisoft that are making those amazing games. I have a business issue. Without Ubisoft and the huge teams they gave me, I would not be here. I am happy – this is first time I’ve said it.”
Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey did not receive any release date or window, but “much more is to come in 2015.” Désilets’s studio currently sits around six members, but he doesn’t believe that will have any effect on the game’s quality.
“We can do what we want,” he said, “but the core of the experience should be triple-A quality.”
