Bungie Announces Crucible Changes in Latest Weekly Update
In their Weekly Update, Bungie detailed several changes coming to Destiny's PvP arena, the Crucible, in the very near future. The primary focus of these changes is the way special ammo works in the Crucible. After the update, special ammo will spawn less frequently, individual ammo bricks will reward less ammo, and it will take longer to pick up special ammo.Crucible designer Kevin Yanes explained the reasoning behind this decision, stating "We wanted players to really think about how and when they should use their ammo. The hope is that you'll ask yourself questions like: Is this snipe worth it right now? Should I really shotgun rush these players? Should I conserve ammo until the next crate?"
In their Weekly Update, Bungie detailed several changes coming to Destiny’s PvP arena, the Crucible, in the very near future. The primary focus of these changes is the way special ammo works in the Crucible. After the update, special ammo will spawn less frequently, individual ammo bricks will reward less ammo, and it will take longer to pick up special ammo.
Crucible designer Kevin Yanes explained the reasoning behind this decision, stating “We wanted players to really think about how and when they should use their ammo. The hope is that you’ll ask yourself questions like: Is this snipe worth it right now? Should I really shotgun rush these players? Should I conserve ammo until the next crate?”
To counterbalance these changes, Bungie stated that ammo crates will have a larger drop radius for teammates to ensure that other players are not left out when a crate is opened.
In addition to special ammo, Bungie also confirmed that changes are coming to heavy ammo as well. Heavy ammo drops will now despawn to prevent players from sitting on unused bricks, while new visual prompts will assist players in determining where heavy ammo crates are on the map.
In addition to these PvP balance changes, Bungie revealed two smaller “quality of life” changes to Destiny. Players will now be able to lock certain weapons to prevent them from being accidentally or, in some cases, nefariously dismantled. Furthermore, players will now have the option to wear their helmets in the game’s social hub, the Tower. Bungie had some fun with this particular addition, stating “Now you can stress out during your descent to the Tower about having nothing to wear.”
