Talking to MCV, President and CEO of NIS America Takuro Yamashita stated that Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and the sequel Danganronpa: Goodbye Despair have sold well. For a niche visual novel that is exclusive to the PS Vita, these numbers are a success. Yamashita even spoke on what the success of the game means for the company: “Danganronpa was definitely the game that made visual novels popular with Western gamers; since then there’s been more coming out…NISA is known for publishing niche JRPGs like Disgaea, but now we’re shifting the system towards visual novels after the success of Danganronpa.”
A third game in the Danganronpa series, titled Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, is set to release on the PS Vita later this year. The game is a third-person spinoff that takes place between the first and second game. The development of a third Danganronpa title is also underway, though not much is known at the moment.
