Love them or hate them, remasters have been all over the place in the last year or two. Sometimes we sigh at the sight of yet another unnecessary remaster, but in this case, a remaster wasn’t a bad idea.
The Metro games were fairly overlooked on the Xbox 360 and PS3, so bundling the two – Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light – into Metro Redux on the Xbox One and PS4 was a pretty smart move from publisher Deep Silver. The success of the remaster is evident, as Deep Silver has just announced that Metro Redux is the best-selling remaster (when measured against sales of the previous generation releases) of this generation, and as we know, there has been a lot of them so it’s no small feat.
In case you’re confused, what this means is that the number of copies sold of the remaster over the original is greater than any other remaster on the shelves. In other words, it’s the best-selling remaster as opposed to the most-selling one, although it should be pointed out that figures for heavy-hitters such as The Last of Us Remastered, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition and Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin have yet to be announced.
Deep Silver also pointed out that Metro Redux has outsold Metro Last Light in “multiple territories”, so if it’s a good remaster you’re looking for, Metro Redux seems to be a pretty safe bet.
