You may or may not have heard about the leaked Sony memos, PDFs, executive emails and presentations that were uploaded onto WikiLeaks earlier this week. Among all of this is a nice little piece of information for us all. Sony might be trying to acquire the film rights to the Super Smash Bros. series.
WikiLeaks unveiled a new portal for the entire archive of leaked materials from the 2014 Sony hack. WikiLeaks editor-in-chief, Julian Assange claims are “newsworthy and at the center of a geopolitical conflict.”
Several emails were sent back and forth between Amy Pascal, who is the Sony Pictures co-chair and film producer Avi Arad. These emails referenced the Nintendo fighting game series and mentioned a ‘full court press” about the series and a “five year chase” relating to the attempts to obtain film rights to major Nintendo characters such as Mario, Donkey Kong, and Link.
This could be the real deal or just another mindless rumor that is being spread around. Even if it is real, it would take a lot for Sony to convince Nintendo to hand over film rights. But with enough digging, we could find out if this real or not.
