Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be lonely
Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be the loneliest iteration of the series in years and that's incredible. Syndicate already cut out multiplayer, a feature that's been trending in Assassin's Creed in some form or fashion. Now, following in that same vein, Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be the first in years to not have a companion application to tie in with the game.“There will not be a companion app,” a Ubisoft representative told Eurogamer. “For Assassin's Creed Syndicate, the team wanted to focus all their efforts on the core experience.”

I couldn’t be happier about this news. Though it was not the only perpetrator, the previous tie in app with Assassin’s Creed Unity was the most severe case. Being more cumbersome than supplemental to the overall experience, the app was abhorrent. Unity players were taunted and had their maps cluttered with the teases of various treasures, regardless of if they used the app or not.
Face it, the quality of Assassin’s Creed has been dwindling in a downhill spiral. Black Flag, released in 2013, is the only faint beam of light the series has seen in some time. I’m cautiously optimistic that Ubisoft will be able to use this added focus to reinvigorate Assassin’s Creed.
