Cyberpunk 2077 is the next game coming from The Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red. Unfortunately, we probably will not be hearing anymore about the game for another couple of years.
Speaking to Reuters, CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kicinski spoke of the possibility of Cyberpunk 2077 being a bigger commercial success than The Witcher 3. He states: “We hope and are certain that Cyberpunk has even bigger commercial potential. It is too early to talk about it, though.” He then speaks of the company’s plans: “This year, and the next one will be the years of the Witcher.”
Support for The Witcher 3 has already been seen both long-term and short. For the next few weeks to come, free DLC for the game will be released every week. There are also two expansions coming in the future: one 10-hour expansion in October, and a 20-hour adventure in 2016.
Kicinski also spoke of what The Witcher 3 is doing for CD Projekt Red: “Sales of the third part will be many times higher than our earlier games. Perorders indicate this…We broke into the mainstream. It is such a moment in our firm’s history that after some years people will look differently at CD Projekt before and after this release.”
Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced in 2012. Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in 2077, when technology has become both a blessing and a curse for humanity. The title will have a nonlinear story intended for “mature” players, and will be set in Night City. Though it will have sandbox elements and some form of multiplayer, CD Projekt Red promises Cyberpunk 2077 will be a true RPG.
Cyberpunk 2077 has no set release date, and we will probably not be getting one for quite awhile. While no platforms have been announced, CD Projekt Red has said the game will “probably” come out on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
