Not much is revealed about the new game as information is on a need-to-know basis. However; Irrational Games has put up a job posting on Gamasultra, looking for someone with a good deal of knowledge on the use of Unreal Engine 3 and 4.
This is somewhat surprising considering the lay offs for the company early last year where the number of people in the studio was dramatically cut to around 15. The fact that they’re now opening up and looking for more people to enter the studio would mean they’re on the rise to creating something big again ever since Bioshock Infinite.
Ken Levine; the co-founder of Irrational Games had hinted the game back when he was working on the Burial at Sea DLC; talking about creating a more narrative driven game, with characters that are interesting through having ‘passions, wants, and needs’ as he had put it to Polygon. To quote his vision for the game from the article:
“The whole system that I came up with and that we’re developing is based upon the fact that to make an interesting character, you have to have a character who has a bunch of passions, wants, and needs,” Levine said. “The player now has the ability to facilitate those wants or needs or go against those wants or needs or ignore those wants or needs. The reason I think the system is going to work is because it’s a very organic way to look at a character. It’s a quite systemic game. The system we’re in, the character’s feelings about you change, they go up and down. But the heart of a character is still wants and needs, and that makes it no different than anything I’ve ever written before.”
The game will most likely have nothing to do with the Bioshock series; so it’ll be a refreshing experience and will have an impact on many people just like the Bioshock games had when it first came out.
To hopefuls hoping to fill the position for senior programmer, we wish you luck and hope you contribute to a game that’ll blow the world away!
