League of Legends players will soon be able to turn off some of the game’s cosmetic animations that surround characters during the match. Developer Riot Games has added a new menu option that will allow players to hide “eye candy” while playing.
“We added the option to disable things like butterflies, dragonflies and the water wakes to help competitive players focus on what they care about, the gameplay,” Riot wrote on the game’s official forums.
“It should have a slight impact on performance,” they added. “But honestly not enough that it’s worth toggling on for that. Setting your video quality to the lower settings will make a much bigger difference than this toggle.” One comment to the post compared the change to professional athletes being distracted by the fans in a real-life stadium, asking how this was any different. Riot defended, “As a video game, we’re not bound by the same set of problems and if we can improve competitive integrity by making an easy change like this, I believe we should.”
A release date for this new menu option has not been given yet, but will go live in the game’s next deployment of the Public Beta Environment. Let us know in the comments below what you think of the “hide Eye Candy” feature.
