Today a patch for the PC version of the hit fighting game Mortal Kombat X was released. Unfortunately, the patch seems to be doing more bad than good for some players.
The new Mortal Kombat X PC patch was meant to fix a number of issues for that version of the game, with a few tweaks and improvements. The update included fixes for a number of crashes and performance issues that were plaguing the PC version of the game. Sadly, the update came with a major bug of its own: players have been reporting the loss of all their save data. Players are finding that their unlocked characters are no longer available, and that their progress in the game’s Krypt, a dungeon-crawling game filled with unlockables, has been reset.
The game’s publisher Warner Bros. has since pulled the Mortal Kombat X patch from Steam, and is now investigating the issue. An update on Steam reads: “We are temporarily removing the patch until we can pinpoint the cause of save data loss. We are actively working on this and will keep everyone posted as we work towards a fix. We sincerely apologize for this disruption.”
This incident comes with unfortunate timing. The first DLC character for Mortal Kombat X, Jason from Friday the 13th, was released recently. Hopefully, the issue can be resolved soon.
