PlayStation Originals show Powers renewed for a second season
A little over a week following season one's finale, the first, and so far only, PlayStation Originals show, Powers, has received the nod for a season two. Following a rather unique distribution model, the show was made available solely over the PlayStation Network, releasing one episode a week, all ten episodes free for PS Plus subscribers.Based on the comic series of the same name from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, Powers follows two cops tasked dealing with super powered crimes in a world where superheroes are rockstars. Complete with publicists, corporate sponsorships, and twitter accounts, the show sports a distinctly different take on the superhero genre.

Speaking with Hollywood Reporter, John Koller, VP of platforms marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment said, “The reception to Powers has been incredible, and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind… We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of Powers.”
As far as what season two will hold, Jamie Erlicht, president of programming and development added, “There is a lot to look forward to in season two for both new and existing fans of the series, as we broaden the Powers universe and bring even more of the fan-favorite characters and storylines to life.”
Though the season started out rough, Gamespresso’s reviews of Powers, including the review for last week’s finale, noted the substantial improvement the series showed once it found its footing. As of now, the show is set to return in 2016.
