We all know that Playtonic Games’ Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter campaign was a huge success. Everyone seems to be super excited for it as well. It has been reported by creative director Gavin Price that he and his team has talked to Nintendo about a possible Yooka-Laylee amiibo.
Price said that he is an avid amiibo collector himself and the he remains hopeful that Yooka and Laylee will one day be amiibos themselves, “Something in that area is still very much in our plans and there is nothing that is impossible to overcome, so what we do with that we will reveal at the right time,” Price said. “With any big company, these discussions don’t happen as fast as us as a team of seven would like,” Price said. “When we want to do something, we can do it tomorrow. But when you are working with partners, we have to work with them at their speed.”
The games developers expressed an interest in using amiibo with the gameplay and said it could be a possibility if fans voice enough support and interest for the idea.
Luckily for them, Nintendo licensing manager Damon Baker stated that his company was open to amiibo collaborations with third-party developers. “There’s a ton of interest from our third-party partners and we’re looking at what makes sense in terms of business models and levels of integration,” Baker said. “There are really creative ideas that are coming through and we are working towards some opportunities for 2015.”
