Project CARS will release next week which means the reviews have begun rolling in. At the time of writing, Project CARS is the highest rated racing game available on the PS4.
Mind you, it doesn’t have stiff competition. Whilst Project CARS currently sits at an average score of 85 on Metacritic, the nearest runner-up is Need for Speed Rivals at 80. Driveclub – the PS4 exclusive – also falls behind at 71, but it’s worth pointing out that the game had a severely troubled launch and is now considered a better game by many due to patches, which even forced some reviewers to update their scores. Whether or not Project CARS is a better racing game than Driveclub is a debate for another time, but for now, the numbers do the talking.
The other main notable title is The Crew which has flopped with a 61 rating on PS4.
Despite it being the highest rated racing game on the PS4, Project CARS only just makes it onto the podium as far as the other platforms are concerned. Project CARS is the third highest rated racing game of this generation across all platforms, with Xbox One’s Forza Horizon 2 coming in second at 86 and Wii U’s Mario Kart 8 crossing the checkered line first with an average score of 88.
It’s worth pointing out that these figures are based on only nine reviews of Project CARS and more will naturally be coming in as we approach the game’s launch, meaning that the overall average could shift up or down slightly. Nevertheless, at this rate it likely won’t be significant enough to knock it off its perch on the PS4.
