Project Cars on Wii U still a "maybe"
In an interview with NintendoLife, developer Slightly Mad Studios spoke out to address the uncertain future of the Wii U edition for Project Cars. Studio head Ian Bell said that the Wii U version was never a sure thing as they began their crowdfunding campaign back in 2013 for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles only."It was always 'maybe' as we had no knowledge of the system," Bell said. "It was again changed, by vote of the members, to a PC/Xbox One/PS4 next-gen game with still 'maybe Wii U' and Steam OS. The funding, as I said above, was closed long before this."

The issue behind the Wii U version of the game is that it’s struggling performance wise. Project Cars currently runs at 720p/23 fps on the Wii U, but Slightly Mad is trying to do everything it can to tweak this. They aren’t ready to cancel the game just yet. Bell even suggested that they may just shift development of the Nintendo version of the game to the codenamed NX console.
“We still haven’t given up on Wii U 100 percent,” Bell said. “But if we can’t make it work, we will move to the next Nintendo machine.”
