The new Assassin’s Creed is only officially being revealed tomorrow, but the leaks and rumors surrounding the game have been coming in faster than an assassin diving into a cart full of hay.
The latest speculation regarding the game comes from Kotaku, revealing that players could have the chance to play as a female character in the next iteration of the Assassin’s Creed series.
The story suggests from a source that there will actually be two main characters in the game: siblings Jacob and Evie (who is seen in the image below). The story goes on to say the missions may be split 75:25 for Jacob and Evie respectively, with the ability to freely switch between the two characters when exploring the main game world.
Ubisoft previously came under fire from fans and critics alike after the comments made by Assassin’s Creed Unity creative director Alex Amancio regarding the lack of a female playable character in last fall’s release of Unity. Amancio said, “It’s double the animations, it’s double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets. Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work.”
The latest Assassin’s Creed, supposedly set in Victorian London, was also leaked by Kotaku last fall, at the time referred to as Assassin’s Creed: Victory, though apparently has now had a name change to Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate. It is expected to be released this fall for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It will also supposedly not feature a multiplayer mode.
The reveal for the next game is set tomorrow at 9 a.m. PDT. Are you hoping for a female character lead? Do you think Ubisoft had plans for a female protagonist in Syndicate all along, or was it a last minute addition after the backlash against Unity?
