With Borderlands 3 looming just around the corner, 2K Games and publisher Two-Two Interactive have announced that the franchise has recently surpassed an incredible milestone: shipping nearly 25 million units according to their latest earnings report.
While Take-Two didn’t break the report down game-by-game, they did say more than 8 million Borderlands games have been shipped in its fiscal 2015 year alone.
The franchise has been around since 2009 when the original Borderlands game launched, with the game’s sequel Borderlands 2 arriving in 2012. The sequel quickly went on to become 2K’s best-selling title in the studio’s history with “well over” 12 million copies sold. The third game in the franchise, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel launched late last year for previous-gen consoles before being ported to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in early 2015 as part of the Handsome Collection.
In January 2015, Gearbox official revealed that they’re working on the fourth game in the franchise, Borderlands 3, which studio president Randy Pitchford described as “the big one” and is being developed “specifically for next-gen” consoles. So far, no information regarding the game has been revealed.
