While possibly a seen as a strange question for anyone new to DC comics, the problem of exactly which ‘Batgirl’ was under the mask when Rocksteady announced her as a playable character in Batman: Arkham Knight’s DLC over the weekend kicked off quite a bit of speculation for those familiar with the character. Game Director at Rocksteady, Sefton Hill, has taken to twitter put an end to the speculation, or just the feed the fire more, depending on how you look at it. “I can confirm it is indeed Barbra Gordon.”
Obviously, this was more than likely, considering Barbara Gordon is the current Batgirl in the comics, but the confirmation lends to some pretty clear implications for the DLC, ‘A Matter of Family.’ Currently, in the Arkham series, Barbara Gordon serves as Oracle, the computer genius/voice in your ear, who happens to also be paralyzed from the waist down. In the original announcement, it was confirmed the DLC would be a prequel story. So, will this be a story of how she becomes paralyzed? The original cause of Barbara Gordon’s paralysis in the comics, the Joker breaking into her apartment and shooting her, doesn’t clearly lend itself well to a playable form. Could Rocksteady be tackling the Batgirl narrative in a new, re-imagined way? We’ll just have to wait and see.
Today, Rocksteady released the full voice cast of Arkham Knight, announcing Ashley Greene will be taking over as Barbara Gordon.
