A standalone, downloadable release from the same team that made last year’s breakout hit Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a prequel, showing two missions set before the Nazi’s won WWII. With the game releasing today on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, Machine Games has given us one more look at the game’s gameplay. The trailer shows off a small snippet of the returning stealth mechanics featuring a new lead pipe weapon, but mostly, of course, the return of the good, gory, Nazi slaughtering the series is known for. The trailer also includes a quick glimpse of flaming zombie Nazis.
In a post on the Playstation Blog, Bethesda Softworks’ Matt Grandstaff promises that The Old Blood includes the “same high-intensity, story-driven, first-person action players have come to expect…”
Speaking to the two story acts that make up the game, he continued, “B.J.’s battles within Castle Wolfenstein are what legends are made of, but Castle Wolfenstein only represents the game’s first act: Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves. Serving as the warden of Castle Wolfenstein’s prison, Jäger might seem like the most sinister villain you’ll meet — until you reach the game’s second act, The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs… A renowned archaeologist in the Nazi party, Von Schabbs heads the party’s SS Paranormal division, and her passion for the occult will lead to very bad things.”
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is out now for $19.99. Are you already playing it? Let us know in the comments.
