When it was first announced, some were skeptical about the newest Star Wars Battlefront, the removal of space battles and a single player campaign striking some fans as not only odd, but also worrying. Come E3 however, DICE seems set to dissuade those fears and make quite a splash.
In the lead up, the developer is already getting some of the nitty-gritty details out of the way. Having already talked about cooperative ‘missions’ being part of the game, Community Manager, Mathew Everett took to Reddit, to clarify how these ‘missions’ fit in with the rest of the game.
“Mission maps are unique to Missions,” he stated. “The map count we revealed includes only Multiplayer maps from the base game (12 maps). We also have the two extra free maps that will come with the Battle of Jakku. The Battle of Jakku maps will arrive starting on December 1st or December 8th depending if you pre-ordered, which gives us 14 maps total before The Force Awakens arrives in theaters.” He then concludes, saying, “We will reveal the full Mission map count in the near future.”
While this is not strictly new information, the clarification is of course welcome. Upon release, Battlefront will feature 12 multiplayer maps total, spread across the four planets of Endor, Hoth, Tatooine, and Sullust.
In an interesting note, Everett also took the time to share a bit off information about the development of Sullust, saying, while Sullust is featured in the Princess Leia comic series, started recently by Marvel, “The Sullust they use within the comic is based on the Sullust we’re introducing into the Star Wars universe in Star Wars Battlefront. This has been a part of the collaboration we have had with Lucas over the last few years.”
Recently, DICE also opened up about the possibilities for character customization in the multiplayer shooter. Going forward, for more on Star Wars Battlefront, look for it on EA’s E3 press conference stage, June 15, 1pm PT / 4pm ET / 9pm GMT. Until then, how do you think the game is shaping up?
