At E3 Bethesda announced along with PC, the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 will have mod support, other than that not much else was known. But now, thanks to a chat between IGN and Todd Howard, we have a few more details.

For starters, mod support may also be coming to PS4. It’s launching first for PC early next year, then for Xbox One and with PlayStation 4 – hopefully – to follow. So no guarantees for the Sony system

Howard explained Bethesda is hoping for it to be as close to how mods currently work with Skyrim on PC; “Just like Skyrim, there are mods that can break your game pretty wildly, and so we have some safety things on the console for that, but at the same time, we are going to let people break their game.” He continued, adding that when using mods you’ll “create another version of your save game”. So rest assured, should something go wrong, your hours of gaming won’t be lost.

As with the mod version of your save file, Bethesda is looking to provide safety nets rather than completely police the whole system, Howard explained “The plan is that it goes through Bethesda.net, but … outside of things that we would normally take down — we take down things on Steam Workshop if it’s got things that are illegal, or things like that — we’ll do the same thing.”

Fallout 4 comes out on 10th November this year for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
