Fans have been anticipating a new console-based Metroid Prime title for awhile now. Unfortunately, we may not see such a title during the Wii U’s lifetime.
Speaking to Eurogamer at E3, Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe states that a new game in the series would take some time to make. He states: “If we started for the Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo’s NX console…It’s a long time but it would need to include a lot of content, which would take a lot of work on the development side.”
Tanabe concludes the interview: “It is a great idea, i agree. Truth be told, making HD games takes a lot of time and resources. I haven’t been able to collect a team or the resources to do it.”
Sadly, this would mean that Metroid Prime fans will have to wait awhile. Nintendo does not plan to reveal the NX until 2016. With the development time after, it could be awhile.
Nintendo did reveal a new Metroid Prime multiplayer title at E3 this year. Entitled Metroid Prime: Federation Force, the title will release on 3DS in 2016.
