Microsoft has shed more light on the details surrounding their huge announcement at E3 that the Xbox One would soon have backwards compatibility.
First, it has been confirmed that Xbox One owners will be able to play games online with their friends on Xbox 360.
The process is governed by a simple button press of both the View and Menu buttons simultaneously. This will replace the current Xbox One home screen with the Xbox 360 screen, replete with all of its old features.
Players can then put an Xbox 360 disc into their current-gen console, which will proceed to download the software onto its hard drive. Microsoft explained that a partial download is necessary with the systems that are currently in place.
Unfortunately, hardware will not be backwards compatible, so peripherals such as the Rock Band musical accessories will not work.
Backwards compatibility will launch for the Xbox One this holiday, with over 100 titles that publishers will have to approve.
