343: Every Halo will have a beta after Master Chief Collection
Halo: The Master Chief Collection arrived on Xbox One last fall with an immense amount of problems hindering its online capabilities for months after its release. Since the Master Chief mess, 343 is now claiming they will never release another Halo game without it going through a beta."Going forward, you will never see a Halo game coming out without a beta," Bonnie Ross, head of 343 said. "It was obviously painful for our fans and for us. But it won't happen again. There are things we put in place to make sure that we know everything, how it stands up outside and in the wild."
Halo: The Master Chief Collection arrived on Xbox One last fall with an immense amount of problems hindering its online capabilities for months after its release. Since the Master Chief mess, 343 is now claiming they will never release another Halo game without it going through a beta.
“Going forward, you will never see a Halo game coming out without a beta,” Bonnie Ross, head of 343 said. “It was obviously painful for our fans and for us. But it won’t happen again. There are things we put in place to make sure that we know everything, how it stands up outside and in the wild.”
During her interview with Game Informer magazine, Ross described the MCC as “ambitious” as its original concept was to keep the four games separate, until the idea of connecting them via a single interface was implemented.
Ross said the decision to combine of the four the titles into one on the Xbox One “definitely created huge challenges. In hindsight, it would probably have been better to ship the four games separately. And I think that fans would’ve loved that. We wanted to do more. We wanted it to be this gift to the fans.”
343 has now vowed to always include a beta when it comes to any future releases.
“There is so much we learned with the Halo 5 beta,” Ross said. “There is actually stuff we took from our Master Chief Collection–learnings that we were able to put into the beta.”
Halo 5: Guardians is headed for Xbox One on October 27. Details regarding the game have begun emerging regarding the game’s single player campaign.
