2012’s action game Darksiders II is getting a remastered version. This remastered version will be called the “Death-initive Edition” and will be published by Nordic Games, who bought the franchise from THQ, which was announced Thursday. This new version, originally only for PS4, but now announced for Xbox One, should launch this winter according to Polygon.
The Darksiders II Death-initive edition will run in native 1080p, will have better lighting, improved character and environmental visuals, and will come with all previously released DLC. No prices have been announced as of yet. This new version is in development at Gunfire Games, which is thankfully reportedly staffed “almost entirely” of people who were originally at Darksiders at Vigil Games.
“This isn’t a simple port,” said the developer on its website, “We’ve put a lot of time to improve both the visuals and gameplay to make it on par with current releases. It’s been fun adding more polish to a game that is near and dear to our hearts.” They are also considering a port of the original Darksiders, and are thinking about Darksiders III.
“Naturally (and extremely excitedly!), there will be a large scale-project based on Darksiders, but for now it is very important for us to take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience.”
I am so excited about this news. I love the Darksiders series, and I was extremely bummed out when I heard the news of the series ‘ending’ because of THQ. Now that the series is getting reboots, I think getting a third is likely especially if they sell well. I will hope and dream, and I have hope this remake will be amazing. It has the almost entire original team, after all.
