Speculation surrounding the production of vaporware, Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been rampant since the E3 press conferences last week. With long-awaited fan favorites such as Shenmue 3, The Last Guardian, and even a Final Fantasy VII remake, this long awaited sequel to Ubisoft’s 2003 action-adventure game has fans clamoring to continue the trend.
IGN was told by Ubisoft’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing that Beyond Good and Evil creator Michel Ancel was too busy to be focusing on the sequel.
“So he’s a busy guy right now. But no…. He’s got things going on and I can’t really comment on his bandwidth. I know he’s very busy. We still work with him on things.”
It was assumed from this that Ancel was no longer on the project, but Ubisoft later corrected this statement.
“What was reported by IGN is untrue. Michel is still leading creative development of several exciting projects being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier.”
Neither statement really answers the question of whether Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in production, simply that the game director is busy and still working with Ubisoft. With the information that Ancel is working at Ubisoft Montpellier, fans can still keep hope for a forthcoming announcement at Gamescom or Paris Games Week, a move Ubisoft may want to make to keep up with other publishers’ recent fan-pleasing announcements.
