At their E3 presentation, Microsoft have announced news of Gears of War 4 coming to Xbox One Holiday 2016.
Rod Fergusson, studio head at The Coalition, began the presentation with the reveal of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, a remastered version of the original Gears of War, stating that a beta for the game is available to Xbox One players from today. He went on to debut a gameplay demo of Gears of War 4 showing two gears, a male and a female, exploring a desolate town in the dark of night. They take a quiet walk through the town; stopping to sample the water from a decaying fountain before being interrupted by a monstrous shrill. The gears take action and fire upon a shadowy creature clambering across the rooftops; the creature evades the gears, disappearing from sight.
Battered by the vicious storm tearing through nearby buildings, the two gears find their intended path blocked, rerouting to a courtyard where the beast that was stalking them is revealed: a barb-tailed armadillo-like behemoth opens its three-part jaws exposing numerous tendrils concealed within. The gears fight back against the monsters in a bloody exchange of teeth and chainsaws; our male protagonist is then pinned underneath one of said beasts, leaving him utterly at its mercy. The screen goes black then fades into a Gears 4 logo, ending the trailer.
This reveal comes off the back of leaked (and now confirmed) information regarding Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, thanks to the Russian version of the official Gears of War website.
Gears of War 4 will be released on Xbox One Holiday 2016.
