Contradicting what John Holmes, head of 343 industries said yesterday in an interview, Halo 5: Guardians will require an active Xbox Live Gold subscription to play online co-op. In the interview, Holmes said that a Gold subscription would not be required to play online co-op. He admits that he got it wrong.
“I misspoke during the interview when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account,” Holmes said. “Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play.”
He went on to apologize for any inconvenience and claimed that Halo 5 will come with a free 14 day trial of Xbox Live Gold.
A main reason this is an issue is because there is no local co-op campaign option, forcing players to go online for co-op single player.
