Hyrule Warriors Legends was recently announced for the Nintendo 3DS. We have recently received some insight on the upcoming title from the game’s producer.
In an interview with Famitsu (via Nintendo Everything), game producer Yosuke Hayashi says that the “positive reception” of Hyrule Warriors and the calling from Zelda fans for a 3DS version of the game is what led to the handheld port of the title.
In the early days of Hyrule Warriors Legends, the development team decided they wanted to feature The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. The game was previously left out on the Wii U version of Hyrule Warriors due to the difficulty of matching the game’s unique look with other featured Zelda titles, such as Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess.
Because Hyrule Warriors Legends is a different experience and features a new style, the 3DS title will serve as an epilogue to the Wii U version, picking up where that title left off. In addition to the new story and art style, Hayashi teased new character additions coming to the 3DS version in addition to the King of Hyrule and Tetra.
Hayashi states: “I can’t go into details yet, but we plan to add new character(s) [can mean one or several] other than Tetra and King of Hyrule. There are fan favorites and surprising characters in the game, so I’d be happy if you kept guessing who will join the fight while waiting for follow-up information.”
Hyrule Warriors will release on the 3DS in the first half of 2016.
