The Fallout 4 special edition comes packaged with a replica Pip-Boy designed to hold your phone and run the companion app. The special edition also comes with a stand and Capsule Case, and will run you $119.99, £99.99 and €129.99. Todd Howard described it as one of the best “gimmicks” he’d ever seen.
But buyer beware, according to a post on the Bethesda Blog, the replica Pip-Boy will feature special foam inserts that allow it to fit a variety of smartphones such as the iPhone 6, iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 4/4S, Samsung Galaxy 5, Samsung Galaxy 4, and other smartphones of comparable sizes. Conspicuously absent from the list are larger smartphones or “tablet phones”. The reasoning for this is purportedly for accuracy to the source model:
“As we wanted to stay faithful to the dimensions of the in-game model, any smartphones larger than the models listed will not fit inside the wearable device,”
But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to run the companion app, but for maximum authenticity Fallout fans may have to buy a new smartphone to accompany their purchase when Fallout 4 goes on sale November 10 for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC.
