There is a new Mirror’s Edge game in development, but it’s not a sequel.  DICE have insisted that Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is not going to be a sequel to the 2008 free-running adventure game.

According to Sera Jansson, Senior Producer on Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, this will not be Mirror’s Edge II and that they wish to push the boundaries with this one to beyond what the first one was.

“The team has spent a lot of time re-evaluating every aspect of the game and making it a new experience. This is not a sequel, this is not Mirror’s Edge 2. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players.”

She also affirmed that by E3 we’ll see more of the game, thanking fans for their patience with DICE as they develop it.

“So on behalf on the entire team here at DICE, we can’t wait to show you what we have been pouring our heart and soul into. We can’t wait to introduce you to Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.”

Catalyst is due for release during the first quarter of 2016, between January 1st and March 31st.  A full list of platforms it’s being released for hasn’t been announced yet, but it is expected on both consoles and PC.

DICE are also developing the upcoming reboot of the Star Wars Battlefront game series which will launch on PC and consoles this coming November.
