Obsidian Entertainment is the game studio behind titles such as Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. Today, one of the company’s founders has announced that he is leaving the studio.
Today Chris Avellone has announced that he is leaving Obsidian Entertainment. Taking to Twitter, he stated: “I have officially left Obsidian Entertainment to accept a sudden opening as the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts.” He then put out a second tweet: “The first part is serious, but much love and well wishes to my fellow devs, good folks one and all.”
Avellone clarified further to Eurogamer: “On the future, I’m off to pursue new projects, but I can’t say anything more at this time beyond life is short, and the ideas keep growing.”
Avellone was a founding member of Obsidian Entertainment back in 2003. He was originally a member of Black Isle before helping create Obsidian. Avellone was a creative director at Obsidian, and was instrumental in the development in titles such as Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Wasteland 2.
Obsidian Entertainment is based in Irvine, California. The studio is currently working on an MMO entitled Armored Warfare.
