Earlier this year, it was announced that Daybreak’s MMOFPS, Planetside 2 would be coming to PS4. The release date is actually set for June 23rd and so close to release we thought that we wouldn’t be receiving any more news regarding the game, but it turns out that Daybreak’s PS4 development team has retracted a previous statement.
The PS4 version of Planetside 2 was going to be fps locked at 30 frames in order to assure smooth gameplay for some of the insane fights that are natural to the massive battlefields that Planetside 2 boasts. The battles were always notorious for being extremely strenuous on the CPU for PC users, making Planetside 2 an overall demanding game for the player’s system.
The PS4 development team had been shooting for 60fps, but were not sure about the PS4’s capabilities based on current data. However, after testing the team says that most of the time in game was spent at around 50-60fps, allowing them to unlock it from the 30fps.
If you ask me it was a good move by Daybreak to make sure not to make a promise they couldn’t keep.
