Red Dead Redemption is top of the requests for games to be made available on the Xbox One.
After the announcement of backwards compatibility at E3 for the Xbox One, lists and polls began springing up all over the web of “most desired games” from the previous generation. Seemingly highly committed to bringing forward the most popular games first, Microsoft have added a page on their feedback website for users to vote on their most wished for game in an official poll.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, Rockstar’s fantastic western answer to Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, is streets ahead of the competition, having received more than 33,000 votes at the time of writing. The closest competitor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, sits in second place some 3000 votes behind it.
The further you travel down the list the more conventional it becomes. Despite the initially released fan favourites providing a certain sense of variety (the 21 games available as of now to download including Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Mass Effect, the XBLA version of both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie and the release title Kameo: Elements of Power), the fan requests are overflowing with Call of Duty entries and other FPSes such as the swan song to Bungie’s entries in the Halo franchise, Reach. Yes, these are examples of the killer hits avaiable on the console but it would be nice to see more variety than just Bethesda open world games, FPSes and Rockstar games like Red Dead and GTA IV hogging the tops spots – surely one CoD amongst the 100 backwards compatible titles promised by this coming holiday season would suffice, right?
If like me, you are itching for another crack at the Wild West presented in Red Dead Redemption over the shoulder of gruff cowboy John Marston, you can head over to the user voice page on the Xbox website to place your vote for Rockstar’s stellar revenge tale. With no hint of a new installment in the Red Dead franchise, it just might be the next best thing to tide us over until we hopefully see a new game. Equally, Microsoft is probably left wanting to provide titles for all consumers so if you have a slightly oddball title you would love to see revived on your new console hit the vote button! Next-gen Deadly Premonition anyone?
