Sega announced Tuesday that they would be making a new Sonic game, but it’s probably the last things fans wanted. Sega’s producing a third entry in the Sonic Boom subseries – Fire and Ice. Unlike previous Sonic Boom games, which were available for Wii U and 3DS, Fire and Ice will be exclusive to the 3DS.
Despite being the Sonic Boom games being the worst selling games in the entire Sonic franchise, Sega still has faith in the games.
In an interview with Gamespot, Sega producer Omar Woodley said they are “really going to step it up” and that they would “improve all of the things that need improvement”. He said that they were trying to bring back the “fast Sonic experience”.
The Sonic Boom games are based on a Cartoon Network series by the same name. Sega claims the series is doing “extremely well”. Omar Woodley had this to say about the cartoon series:
“On Cartoon Network, the animated series targets the 6-to-11-year-old age range, and the game is also primarily targeted towards that age range. But, of course, we’re going to attract the core fan base because it’s Sonic.”
Whether or Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice will be more successful than its predecessors, only time will tell.
