For the last several hours, countless Xbox One users have been flocking to Reddit and the Microsoft forums in order to complain about the fact that The Witcher 3 has pretty much been rendered unplayable on the console; and it seems that the problem may be affecting every Xbox One user with the game.
According to Microsoft, there is nothing currently wrong with the Xbox One at the moment, or The Witcher 3 (thanks to recent patches). The reason for the problem lies with an error with Xbox Live which is preventing players from accessing the game. Microsoft addressed the issue in an update on the Xbox Live Status page at 4PM Pacific, saying:
“Are you unable to launch or install The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt? We’re working to address this ASAP! Thanks for staying patient. We’ll fill you in as soon as we know more.”
According to the Xbox Live Status page, it seems like there are a variety of problems running rampant across Xbox Live, and Microsoft are currently doing what they can to get through and fix each of them as soon as possible. You can click the link above in order to find out what has been affected, as well as whether or not each feature is back up and running.
The one most relevant to The Witcher 3 is the “Purchase and Content Usage” feature at the top of the page, and it seems like The Witcher 3 is currently the only game affected by whatever error is currently affecting Xbox Live. Microsoft have not been able to give a definitive timeline as to when the bug will be fixed, although the company has been working on the problem for the last several hours without much improvement, so it may be another while before players will be able play The Witcher 3.
