June 24th saw the release of content patch 6.2 for World of Warcraft and even though the raids wings aren’t open yet, the final cinematic at the end of this patch’s raid, Hellfire Citadel, is doing the rounds on YouTube.
If you’re at all interested in the story of Warlords of Draenor and want to find out what happens for yourself then I’ll give you a warning here *SPOILER ALERT*.
It’s fairly redundant however to warn about spoilers when so many of the plot points and character arcs of World of Warcraft are disclosed on fan sites and forums before most people have had the chance to play through that part of the game. This time round we see the aftermath of the battle atop Hellfire Citadel. We see the fate of Archimonde and Gul’dan and the fairytale ending to this part of the campaign. The way the cinematic ends does make it feel as though that’s it for Warlords of Draenor and that we’ll now have to wait for the next expansion for the next instalment of content which has already angered a lot of Warcraft fans who are more used to a 3 tiered raid expansion. At the same time, although it seems like the good guys won, Gul’dan is still out there and there is the possibility of another raid content patch that is purely focused on the Burning Legion which in turn would set up for the next expansion.
There are many directions Blizzard could take with the game now, what are your thoughts? Think we’ll see Gul’dan return as the next Lich King in the alternate universe or will we go back to the original universe? Or will we even see South Seas or Emerald Dream? Let me know what you’re thinking in the comments below!
