Just two weeks after being released and CD Projekt Red confirmed sales of 4 million copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The open world RPG has received highly positive reviews for both gameplay and graphics; the fanbase’s presence from the Witcher’s previous two installments can be felt with the success.

‘Four million RPG fans spending their hard-earned money on our game is a sign that we did something right…’

CD Projekt Red’s co-founder Marcin Iwinski spoke about the game’s feedback and progression in an open letter to the fans today. Taking the immediate popularity in their stride, the game is far from completed, with the promise of two future expansions and weekly free DLCs to come – the first expansion being Hearts of Stone, which will launch in October this year.

Although we know 4 million is an impressive bench mark for the game, having been released on May 19th, there’s no way to tell if this met the developers predictions for the game. There’s not an exact number for the number of copies The Witcher 2 sold, but coupled with the original Witcher game, figures stood at 6 million units as of October last year.

All that being said, the popularity of the game could mean there’s a possibility of another installment to the series, even though Wild Hunt was the final entry to Geralt’s story.
