Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2 has lost its developer. Timo Ulmann, managing director of Yager Developments, said that the project “fell out of alignment”. Deep Silver announced this, likely following discussions after the previous announcement that Dead Island 2 had been delayed into 2016. Yager previously developed Spec Ops: The Line and will now be focusing on Dreadnought, published by Grey Box.
Ulmann explains, “Our team is made of the best creative minds and tech specialists, who all share a common identity. The team worked with enthusiasm to take Dead Island 2 to a new level of quality. However, Yager and Deep Silver’s respective visions of the project fell out of alignment, which led to the decision that has been made.”
This split is surprising considering the game is due to come out in less than a year. Fans of Dead Island can rest assured as Deep Silver stated in their recent announcement, “We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.” We’re still waiting for Deep Silver to name a new developer. Dead Island 2 is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and PC in 2016 with the beta coming first to PS4.
